Position: Alongside Puerto Deseado
Wind: West, F4 moderate breeze
Weather: sunny, mild.
It is a nice sunny day here in Puerto Deseado, but the wind is blowing fresh
form the west so I am staying on board for now to keep an eye on things. If
it gets too bad then we will have to move and anchor out in the harbour. I
have run the engine this morning to make sure everything will be in
immediate readiness should we have to do so.
I managed to go for a walk yesterday evening. I think Puerto Deseado can be
summed up as dry and windy. The landscape is arid, what few trees and
shrubbery line the streets and adorn the small town parks all lean in the
same direction, east, and only grow to a height of about 20 feet, it seems
if they try to poke any branches any higher they will just get blown off.
The town definitely has a wild west feel to it, with this very strange
anomaly of a young man trying to dress a little like a cross between Michael
Jackson (I think) and something else, what I am not sure: big bright red
baggy shorts, white baggy shirt, sneakers, with different coloured bandanas
around either ankle and wrists, one around the neck, a pin through the lower
lip, large dark sunglasses, short cropped hair. He had a mate not quite so
overly done up, jeans, dark glasses and lip hardware. They strolled the
streets expecting goodness knows what to happen. In the evening many youths
were gathered around the street corners socialising. Obviously not a lot to
do in town. The police seem to be over represented and ready for a riot,
with flack jackets and utility belts Batman would be envious of. I guess
joining the police is a better then hanging around street corners.
All is well.
Bob Cat:
Are we there yet? It doesn't feel like it. Let me know when we are (not that
it makes any difference to me). In the meantime you know where to find me .
. . Zzzzzzz.
