We enjoyed another good run over the last 24 hours. The wind remained light and steady overnight, very peaceful, then this morning around seven, freshened from the north ahead of a collapsing cold front.  The fresh breeze eventually required two reefs in the mainsail and the jib half rolled up, but now the wind has died and we are drifting around in lumpy seas off the northern end of King Island.

Meanwhile, I hear that Mark Sinclair has made it to Adelaide and also that poor Susie Goodall, the youngest competitor in the Golden Globe Race and the only woman, has been pitchpoled and dismasted to the west of Cape Horn. Very disappointing. She was doing very well.  The race started with 18 boats and is now down to five, with eleven boats retired, five of which, including Susie, have lost their rig due to pitchpoling, capsize or knock down, and two have dropped down to the Chichester class, including Mark.

Things are a little less hectic onboard Sylph, though a little bit of wind would be nice, but not too much thank you very much.
