The cockpit modifications and hull maintenance there-under are complete and Sylph is ready for sea.  The weather is fair and I have an ex-Navy mate, Mark Sinclair, who is competing in the Golden Globe Race, to rendezvous with in Storm Bay.  So, today we packed up Sylph, said a tearful “au revoir” to Kate (we will be meeting up again somewhere soon, just not sure exactly where and when), gave Kate’s cat, Oli, a cuddle, and were on our way a little before midday.  Now we have a nice north-east breeze pushing us along at a comfortable six knots.

On Friday night Sylph and I also bade the Wollongong Yacht Club farewell at the annual Commodore’s dinner.  Much to Kate and my surprise, Sylph won first prize for both the winter and spring “Spring” series of races. As far as I am aware this is the first prize Sylph has won in any yacht race.  Thank you to the club captain, John Somerset, for his generous handicapping system. Kate also won a well-deserved prize for the support she has given the club over the last twelve months.
