This afternoon, exactly one month after our arrival, we cleared out of Fiji. I
spent the better part of two hours in the Customs office waiting for them to
process my departure paperwork because my entry had apparently not been
entered into their data base. Consequently the customs officer in Levuka had
to ring customs in Lautoka who then had to enter all the information into
their computer so that I could subsequently be logged off as having left.
Fortunately, as I am sure I have mentioned in the past, I always bring a book with me when dealing with bureaucracies
and the like just for such exigencies, helping me to remain patient and polite in a
situation I have no control over.

Hence, it was not until a little after 14.00 that I got the anchor inboard, the sails set and Sylph clear of the harbour heading
south for the open ocean. Next stop, if all goes according to plan, is Sydney – 1,740 nm from here.

All is well.
