We have at last made our departure from Hawaii. A front passed through yesterday afternoon bringing strong winds and rain but by this morning it had moderated a little, the rain had ceased and the sun was shining. With two anchors down it took a little while to get them both inboard and Sylph secured for sea but by 11.30 we had rounded the Hilo breakwater, had two reefs in the main and part of the headsail unfurled, and were close reaching to the east to clear Leleiwi Point. That is now behind us and we have altered course to the south east, shaken a reef out of the main and given Sylph a little more headsail. I expect that the wind will ease further this afternoon and by this evening we should be running square, our course south west, next stop Fiji – 2,800 nm away.

All is well.
