The wind eased sufficiently yesterday afternoon to drop the torn headsail
and set the spare old cut down, now number 2, headsail in its place. Number
1 is lashed down on deck. I will fold it when I can, probably not until
Hawaii where, on top of everything else, a visit to a sail-maker is now in
order.
We sailed overnight under number 2 alone, the conditions rough and
boisterous, but this morning the wind has eased some more, though the seas
unsurprisingly remain lumpy. The mainsail is back up, one reef only. 858
miles to go. ETA Hilo, ? Monday 22 February.
Finished Pookie, sweet, Anzac biscuits and chocolate crackles all round. Be excellent to one another. Now
for another go at “Being”. Who would have thought that being, something
that most existents do very well at without giving it so much as a thought,
thank you very much, could be so difficult. Only a philosopher of Sartre's
calibre could do it.
