Dear Family and Friends,

13th May 2015

Here are some more reasons to visit Fatu Hiva!

Charmingly simple church Omoa.

More exotic fruit this is Soursop I believe, similar to custard apple. Delighted to know if you can tell me any more about this fruit.

Modern Tiki on the seafront Omoa, with Jenny the solitary boat moored in the bay.

Another mystery solved, drying coconut meat, smelling like cheese as it ferments, is exported as copra and used to make coconut oil for cosmetics and in cuisine. At $140 per kg, you begin to understand why impossibly steep and difficult to access slopes are all growing coconuts. The collection and preparation are all manual so this is not easy money.

And moving on to Nuku Hiva.

Approaching Taiohae Bay Nuku Hiva in early morning light.

Entering the bay, quite different to the eastern isles, it is drier with less woodlands.

At anchor in the bay, taken from Jenny.

All our best,

Lynne and Alan
