One Monday (4/7) we made the short trip from Hanamoenoa Bay on Tahuata Island, around to Hanamenu Bay on the north side of Hiva Oa Island.  Hanamenu Bay was quite narrow with steep, barren rock cliffs on either side and a small, brown sand beach that didn't look all that inviting.  The black rock cliffs, brown sand beach and slightly overcast sky gave the whole place a little bit of a sinister feel.  The picture below was taken after sunset, when just a sliver of moon was visible.  You can't really see the moon, but the dark rock looks kind of sinister, doesn't it?  The wind was driving an abnormal swell from the north into the bay, which made for a fairly bumpy night.  All in all, not our favorite place.  We left early the next morning for the long fifty-five mile sail north to the island of Ua Huka (pronounced Wa Huka).
