The population mostly came from Brittany and the main town just looks Breton. We climbed the steep road up to Napoleon's Fort, built in the 1800's. Don't know if he ever got there, or limited French again, but it was really impressive. What it did give was the descriptions of all the English/French battles and the outcomes plus small replicas of the ships, including Sir Frances Drake's. All fascinating stuff and worthy of further research. We also saw two of the very, very big iguanas that roam the place. As is the way in France, we then had a leisurely lunch which was delicious, if expensive. A spot of shopping then it was back to boat for a siesta.
