38:11.981N 15:33.570E We have arrived at the marina in the Straits of Messina. The straits are very rough with the currents and winds which whistle through between the mountains. It certainly is the roughest, sea wise, marina we have ever been in. Everything has to be fastened down as if we were at sea. Our crew wanted to visit Mount Etna, which we saw smoking when we passed, but unfortunately could't get a tour operator willing to help. We are so close to the commercial harbour that we can almost touch the cruise ships. An odd kind of boat here is the swordfish fishing boat. Where the skipper site on top of a 50' high mast driving the ship and a guy sits on the bowsprit, again 50' from the boat, to harpoon the swordfish as they come through the straits.
