We are getting closer approx. 150nm west of Horta in the Azores. We would be there in a day if we had westerly winds, but we don’t, we have easterly winds with the sea and waves against us.  After spending 14 days at sea we are all looking forward to stepping on land.

Anton and Annya disagree on the cause of the shadow on the moon that presents us with a half moon etc.  Annya claims that the earth creates the shadow and Anton claims that the moon creates its own shadow.  Anton has bet Annya ; 5 “Dark and stormy” (rum & ginger ale cocktails) that he is correct, the rest of the crew is staying well clear.

Carl and Genevieve were complaining that water was coming into their cabin and soaking their bed.  I was very puzzled by this as the hatches and portholes are tight and the water was not entering this way.  Giancarlo is a master on drenching the crew, not just soaking the carrot cake, leaving the fore hatch open in heavy seas, and chucking a full bucket of water all over Annya as she arrived in Bermuda.  Unawares to the rest of the crew, this time he turned the air intake funnels on deck forward; to get some more air into the cabin. Well he got a bit more than he bargained for and the sea also went in.  We have turned the funnels back to their appropriate position.  Carl slept on the sofa for a while to give his bunk a chance to dry out.

Today Giancarlo is embarking on making bread; he has never done this before so it will be interesting to see the result.

The crew is all well.
