Today we took the dinghy across to the island of Boddam at the other side of the lagoon---about 4 miles away. When the islands were inhabited—until the 1960s---Boddam was the

main centre of activity and most of the islanders lived there, producing copra. There are the remains of a few dwellings, a church and other buildings, but all in ruin and being taken

over by the jungle. Cruisers had built a small area with “seating” and a grilling area for fish etc. and indeed a small volleyball court of sorts. We went over with the crews of Smoke and

Gromit—the latter as ever caught a good fish on the way over and soon had it on the grill for sharing! A nice day out. On the way back we stopped by a coral reef on one of the other

islands---Isle du Sel   a spot recommended by the BIOT guys ---and snorkelled the reef. Amazing! Best ever, said Ger----lots of interesting coral at varying depths, plenty of reef and edible

fish, a turtle, ray etc. It’s equal to anything we’ve seen in the Pacific. Now back on board for an early dinner!
