Day 7 - Salcombe

Silk Sheets
Ben Shute & Fiona Kennelly
Sat 26 Jul 2008 21:15
We motored out from our unsettled berth at 2:45PM Saturday the 26th of July
and headed for Salcombe 50:14.62N 3:45.56W

As we headed out from our horrible anchoring experience we were once again
faced with a South Westerly wind on the nose and to top it off we had to
sail against tide. Luckily for us we only had 20 Kt Miles to go but as we
were having a terrible day to keep it up we ended up with a total travel
distance of 28Kt Miles. Not to forget the full extent of bad luck we were
about 3 miles off shore when the main sail halyard attachment snapped at the
top of the mast and the main sail came falling to the deck. So it wa in for
repairs we went. Check out Fiona up the mast who was the lucky little person
who got the job of getting the main halyard back down.

With only the front sail, wind on the nose and tide against us we decided to
motor sail into the next port to meet with our friends from Shamrock Quay
Mark & Sheena who motored up to see us on there Princess motor yacht.

Thank you so much Sheena for having dinner ready for us as we limped into
harbor. It was a fantastic start to a wonderful few days. We arrived
battered, pissed off and tired only to have hot chili waiting for us on
their beautiful boat.

Well with all of our miss fortune we must of at least bought the weather
with us, the next couple of days we absolutely fantastic, Day 8 was on Silk
Sheets where Fiona and I took Mark & Sheena out for a sail. We were in
Fiona's favorite wind (none) and it was hot (about time). We anchored up
just outside the harbor entrance and swam for the day.

Day 9 was Mark & Sheena's turn again for the entertaining and we headed out
into the deep on their Princess once I dropped the main off at the Sail loft
for some much needed TLC, and I must say my faith in humanity has been fully
restored after being charge only £30 for the fantastic job done on it.
Marks pride and joy is an absolute classy machine with all the power you
could ever need, I can only assume he is trying to make up for something.
Haven't worked out what it is yet. Again we spent the day swimming and
enjoying the good weather.

Day 10 was supposed to be a Sailing day on Silk Sheets so Sheena could see
what all the fuss is about, however a gale had developed over night and
nobody was going anywhere. I don’t think we could of even moved off the
fenders the wind was so strong. So a day fixing things and playing home in
the marina it was. Oh and Fiona watched Scar Face for the first time, can
you believe it, Al Pacino's best film ever. That evening our lovely friends
kindly took us out for dinner in the nearby town for a bite to eat.

Well it was all like a fantastic summer holiday, apart from being called to
the rescue in our little tender Pillow Slip to tow our drifting friends to
safety, who in there right mind goes out with out fuel in the tank and oar's
that work?????
