We spent a great few days in Bermuda, seeing as much as we could in the
limited time by buses and ferries. It was delightful in St Georges on
Sunday morning, as we walked through he old town hymns floated out of open
church doors from Mother’s Day services. We spent time with Trevor and
Alison, our loyal friends and supporters from home. We enjoyed a welcome
party, an Hawaiian evening, a Gossling’s rum tasting evening and ‘fish fry’
prize giving supper. Along with a ‘lucky ticket’ trip to Bermuda radio (the
coastguard) meeting the controller that had guided us in to Bermuda in the
early hours of Saturday morning – all perfectly hosted by the World Cruising
‘yellow shirts’ team. We left our berth on Wednesday morning to refuel and
bid farewell to Trevor and Alison and Bermuda. We anchored off the start
line in Powder Hole, had a cup of tea and waited for the start signals. It
was quite a sight as the fleet proceeded through Town Cut and into the ocean
for the next leg of our journey. Nice flat seas and steady winds heading
south to avoid a building mid-atlantic storm. A ‘dark ‘n’stormy’ sundowner,
sausages and mash and well travelled Christmas pudding and cream for supper
set us up for our first night at sea. Bigger seas on Thursday night so I was
pleased that I had pre-prepared a chicken curry for supper! We have
continued south today, as has the rest of the fleet, as we are running away
from the storm. It looks like we are all heading for the Canaries and not
the Azores at the moment. Storm due to break up over the next couple of days
so looking forward to getting back on course for Horta. Christopher is
miffed he is missing the FA cup tomorrow – come on Hull!
