The same question keeps being asked, where does the yacht name Shelena come
from? So a great question on which to launch our blog. We are Phil and Helen
and are still in the process of finding our way around our new Oyster 545,
hull number 1 delivered to us just a couple of weeks ago here in beautiful
St Peter Port, Guernsey. There are 6 lever arch files of information,
instructions and stuff from manufacturers concerning the kit we have to
operate. Everything from Bosch washing machine and Panasonic all singing and
dancing microwave to freshwater and bilge pumps to Oyster's thick file on
all matters from maintenance to dealing with strong prop walk to advantage!
Of course, all the binder covers proudly identify the binders as belong to
Shelena. So, back to the name.

Many friends have offered helpful suggestions on what 54501 should properly
be called. For example, our friend Brian was convinced that an apt yacht
name was Brian! That suggestion was only declined on the grounds that
tradition has it that all new boats should bear a female name. And so Brian
did not qualify! Another banker friend, yes some are ok, saw a reference to
my old BAT employer as relevant. James therefore proposed the yacht name,
Bat out of Hell! That was declined for the same reason that Brian did not
cut it. My own favourite was Knot For Sale. Quite clever I thought, but you
need to think about it! In any event that was discarded too. All very
interesting but no nearer to Shelena. Well, the most important woman in my
wife, as you know, is Helen. Our surname is Scourfield so surely I have to
have just a tiny input to the name?! Added to that we have three wonderful
daughters, Rachael, Kathryn and Sarah. Obvious now isn't it? "A" is the
second letter of each of their names. Add an "S" and and an "A" to Helen and
what do you ge? Shelena! Just for good measure the African form of Helen is
Shelena. Ans so it is, the good yacht Shelena is christened.

You can see the "A" team in the photo!

Promise to have a nice picture of Helen next time, the wife that is! You
already have Shelena!
