Our three intrepid heroes (that’s us!) set off last night (09/05/13) at
17:15 UTC (i.e. 6:30 PM local time) from Grand Harbour Marina, Birgu, Malta
and headed out to sea, to see what they could see I suppose.
Well, actually, we hope to head in the general direction of Gibraltar, and
so far with very little wind and an autopilot that seems to be playing up a
little, we’re making good progress.  Spirits are high, we have plenty of
fuel to keep us going until we find some wind, and the larder is stocked to
overflowing.

The crew aboard the good ship Shangrila are a very proud Shane; Jon, who we
had so many happy adventures with (some of them with his lovely wife Kate)
on dear Talulah; and Rob, who along with his wife Liz and daughter Ella,
become the very first of our cruising buddies who we met while sailing down
in the Algarve region of Portugal.  So there is a good mix of personalities,
technical skill, and experience to get us through most things that fate can
conspire throw at us.

We’ll endeavour to update this blog on a daily basis, but we are doing it
through a satellite phone that despite working well in the UK, seems to be
not so keen on distributing information, so if we can’t manage the update,
please bear with us.
