Well...... not much to report today. Very pleasant sailing downwind with blue sea and skies.  Chiz chiz!

In our first 24 hours we logged 170 miles and made good 154 miles. In other words we zigzagged towards our destination and wasted 16 miles.  Richard set the pace with the furthest distance run in a watch averaging 8.125Nmh-1 Our day’s run is  not at all bad really given we spent quite a lot of time mucking about last night with our new rig. However, now we have it set up, it is pretty effortless and free from the worries of most rigs:

Not as quick as a spinnaker perhaps, but a darn sight less work for all concerned. We like it!

For some, the adventure experience was not over. Following precise instructions from Head Office, we set up a hammock in the after cabin in which to store fruit. The point of this is to avoid the fruit rolling around as the boat heels, bashing into each other and bruising.  However, instructions were to set it up over Simone’s side of the bunk in the after cabin (Simone not being with us on this leg), which I dutifully did. However, prima facie, the design failed to take account of the boats motion at sea. Each time the boat rolls the hammock swings from side to side and collides with my backside.

Whatever you may think of the size of my posterior, it doesn’t make for unbruised  fruit- it also brings with it a cabin full of fruit flies…..

So, that’s it really.  Still sailing downwind; we are presently  trolling a lure (that dayglo disco orange muppet again!)  in case there’s another fish out here stupid enough to swim at 8+ knots to take it (and provide us dinner)  and are looking forward to Happy Hour - this latter, not least because today is a double happy hour (i.e. two hours long) as we put the clocks back to deal with the difference between Canarian and Cape Verdes ti
