Sat, Sun & Mon – 15th, 16th and 17th March

On Saturday morning we headed off early to Trellis Bay which is right beside the airport on Beef Island.  We had to go early to make sure we got a place in the mooring field as we had our youngest son Ewan (26) flying in that night. Trellis is very well known for the Full Moon party they throw on the Sunday nearest to every full moon and sure enough this was the full moon weekend, so the place was very busy and again getting there early paid off.

Ewan’s flight with a mere 40 passengers was bang on time, ending some20 hours of travelling but local customs officers were in no hurry despite this being the last flight of the day and so it was over half an hour before he emerged.

Slower start to Sunday, but once Ewan had had a post breakfast swim, we headed off under sail to Virgin Gorda Sound where we anchored on the north side as close to Saba Rock as we could get. (This is to get the best free wifi signal!)  We found ‘Sapphire’ and ‘Lady’ there and in the evening we went to Saba Rock to take advantage of the happy hour with Charlie and Jenny off ‘Lady’.  Afterwards we stayed and had a meal there with Ewan tucking into the ‘all you can eat’ buffet option.

In the afternoon we had taken the dinghy out to the reef and enjoyed some snorkelling and although it was better than we remembered from three months ago, it was not as good as so many of the places we have been since.

On Monday we were all up fairly bright and early so we could take the dinghy over to Saba Rock again, (but before they were open) so that we could use their strong wifi signal to Skype our eldest son, Tom to wish him a very happy 29th birthday out in Perth, Australia.

We then sailed down to Spanish Town and anchored close to the shore on the north side of this open and very rolly anchorage. This is not anyone’s idea of a fun stop, but it is just 1 mile from ‘the Baths’ which is the extraordinary swimming experience that we are taking Ewan to see very early in the morning.  Well once again there are a very limited number of buoys there and you cannot use them overnight so it is a bit of a rush first thing in the morning again.
