Friday 23rd August

The shipyard staff started work at 0700 hours which did seem a bit ungodly, but we were happy to get the work done – we thought.  But there were a number of setbacks along the way which meant that time was running out towards the end of the day and with a weekend looming, things became a bit fraught.  In the end Justin was still reassembling the engine exhaust system as the travel lift began its work.

There are certain advantages to being the last lift of the day and the team were very attentive and helpful (they wanted to get off home) and all went well and there were no leaks from any of the 9 new seacocks. Serafina’s hull does look a little pockmarked underneath as several of the new seacocks required new thru-hulls and so new holes were made and fresh antifouling paint has been applied in patches.

The president of the shipyard (manager) very kindly lent Sarah his Volvo so she could drive to the grocery store and we took advantage of this to add a trip to Sears as well as fill one of our propane tanks.  Everyone here is incredibly friendly and I include all the casual passers-by who all want to stop and have a chat.

We will be sorry to leave in the morning especially as we understand that Dovka is due to come here tomorrow, but we are due to meet Ruffian (Iain & Fiona) down in Seal Bay on Vinalhaven and so weather permitting that is the plan.
