Wednesday 21st August

A very still morning indeed and we all set off by dinghies at 1000 hours to the dinghy dock on Holbrook Island for a guided walk around the beautiful but uninhabited island.

Guided was a bit of an overstatement as this involved one of the group picking up the last leaflet on arrival and sort of guessing his way along the various trails, but we all had a great time chatting and enjoying the flora and fauna – if perhaps generally a bit nervous about the smaller less visible items of fauna…..  Back to the boats around lunchtime and a detailed tick inspection followed on board Serafina as advised by various locals. Deer around these parts carry ticks that in turn carry Lyme Disease which is not a healthy thing for humans to contract!

We then made the arduous 3 mile motor round to Smith’s Cove where we anchored very close to Eric Clapton’s boat ‘Blue Guitar’. We had considered inviting him for tea but as he was not on board we were delighted to replace him with Sid and Rebecca from Dovka.  Whilst they were with us, I had to nip off in the dinghy to the assistance of someone who had capsized their dinghy and had evidently been in the water for a long time without help. This all went well and we righted the small sailing dinghy and assisted the youngster back into the boat.

In the evening Dick and Susi along with Dennis and Pam joined us for drinks and we had a very enjoyable evening although we did have to head below as it got dark as the local mosquitoes had come out in force.
