Tuesday 20th August

Sarah took the Camden yacht Club Launch to get ashore around the same time as Mike from Wayfarer arrived to modify our Raymarine wiring to allow us to go cruising for the next two weeks despite the absence of an autopilot or course computer. There were a few inevitable complications so Mike did not get finished for quite a while, so I did not get to join Sarah ashore until around 1100 hours.

We eventually returned to Serafina and dropped the mooring buoy and headed into Camden Yacht Club for water, which involved backing past the clubhouse and onto their quay, which was sort of easy enough, but somehow the collective gazes of a large number of the members eating their lunch out on the lawn watching our every move, made it important not to cock it up!

Once this was sorted, we headed off to Holbrook Island which is close to Castine and we enjoyed a very pleasant but frustrating downwind sail for most of the journey before we despaired of the flaky wind and motored the final few miles. Sarah took a good look round the anchorage on arrival and selected a good sheltered spot behind Ram Island where we dropped the hook. No sooner had we done so, than we saw the unmistakable sail belonging to Hawk gliding through the gaps in the trees, sliding serenely past various other rally boats and their moorings before it rounded the corner and sailed over to anchor beside us. Evans was again sailing singlehanded (will we ever meet his wife Beth Leonard?) and once he had sorted things out he launched his dinghy and popped over for a drink or two.

Gradually other boats arrived and several choose to anchor around us as Sarah had clearly chosen a good spot, but since the bay is so huge the various OCC boats were very spread out.
