Detour to Cape Verde

Hi all,
Sorry for the lack of posts we have had an eventful few days.... firstly I had a close encounter with a big old wale on one of my 6am watches. He jumped up out of the water about 300m off our bows which woke me up. Then he swam past the boat spraying us with his stinky breath, said morning and then dove back under - magic!
Shortly after that we had a team huddle and captain dad decided that the lack of wind and very uninspiring forecast coming up would not do so we whacked the engine on did a 180 and headed for Cape Verde. Plan being to refuel, re water, buy some ice and have a real shower. Took us best part of 2 days to make it here witnessed a cracking sunset quick pic below: the sea and sky where both pink amazing.

We arrived in mindelo, straight off the boat I got land sick from being still! Followed by a shower which can only be described as orgasmic. Mindelo is a wonderful mixture of Havana and being on the film set of spaghetti western... charming, beautiful it has so much character we all want to move here immediately (watch out mum dad is quite serious!) Paul and dad approached evening drinks like 2 sailers on leave and engaged on a team bar crawl drinking the town dry of rum.

Today we have nailed the final provisioning and the forecast is looking good... fingers and toes crossed this is the fricken trade winds kicking in and we'll have some lovely wind up the jacksie! All really looking forward to getting back out on the water (well for dad and Paul soon as they lose the hang over) and conquering the Atlantic. All in all we are a very happy boat and having a massive giggle.

Love to all,
Salty al.
