Having discovered that the washing machine shop by the marina in Genoa, had shut we decided to move on along the North coast of Italy. (we spent four days here two years ago so have no tourism we fancy doing).

It had been suggested we go to Loano, by some French, as a nice marina & town.

We are becoming impressed with this northern coast - we have always thought it wasn't great but it turns out that it is very pretty with nice villages built on the side of the mountains that line the coast.

There was very little wind today so it was motor sailing - the main difference though was a glassy flat sea and a favourable current in our direction - what a change from the last week.

Well we arrived at Loano - a brand new marina with no money spared in the building (probably European funded). In the centre was a building looking like a ship. This was the yacht club with swimming pool in the roof (top deck) restaurants, bars, smart bedrooms/suites with balconies overlooking the marina and a concierge service. Wonderful walkways along the marina walls, all railed with fabulously expensive stainless railing. PLUS A WASHING MACHINE ROOM with the most modern Miele equipment - well that was it we will be here two days at least - particularly as the third day is free.

In summary this is the most luxurious marina we have ever seen and a reasonable price too - it isn't full so I think they are trying to attract new berth holders/us.

On top of all this the town is charming, centred on an old palace with old walls etc.

As I said earlier the North coast of Italy may well be worth exploring more another year.
