We had a gentle two hours sailing / motoring to the Island of Giglio - billed as very pretty.

As we approached the Port I had mixed feelings as to whether we should be visiting - the Hulk of the Costa Concordia looming large as we approached the Port. Whatever mistake the captain made, hitting rocks somewhere offshore, a huge number of lives must have been saved by literally putting this ship on the beech/rocks at Porto Giglio.

We moored up alongside the quay at lunch time. Happily an Italian boat, who had just sailed/arrived from Sardinia helped us with our lines - with rings stuck half way down a high quay it would have been impossible for just the two of us - plus something of a cross wind. Sometime after lunch a guy turned up for his fee - After a little friendly discussion and cash offered - we had the cheapest nights mooring we have ever had in the Med.

I am glad we came - a very pretty port and Island. The Port itself is almost certainly prospering from the salvage operation with half a city of contractors moored off/against the Concordia and clearly frequenting the bars and restaurants.

We took a bus to castled city at the peak of the Island some 1000+ metres high. It was significantly cooler than at sea level - having not thought to wear more than tee shirts we did a quick tour and headed back down to the Port.
