We awoke early - the mobile rang at 6.00am this morning. The alarm at home had gone off which rings my mobile to warn me.

I rang the Hampshire police, who while warning me had a policy of not guaranteeing visiting ringing alarms, duly rang back an hour later to say there was no evidence of a break in - phew!!

So with that dealt with, we filled up with diesel (Italy is much more expensive than France and a bit more than the UK) and set off in the sun and light west winds heading south.

Being sunday there were lots of local boats out sailing/fishing etc. so plenty going on. We decided to have a go at stopping at a little town called Talamone. Looking at the pilot book we weren't even sure that it was deep enough for our boat or had visitors berths. Having passed the harbour wall into what was really a sheltered bay with numerous little pontoons we were waived into a spare berth by the local 'dockmasters'. Five of them stood by throwing ropes at us - one climbing aboard to help with the forward line. And the cheapest place yet this season.

The island of Giglio, which is supposed to be very pretty is some 12 miles from here- just off the coast. So tomorrow we will have a short sail to visit it -  perhaps a bit sad though as this is were the Costa Concordia came to grief last year. I will try my best to avoid the rocks.
