Having looked at the general forecast for the week to come it appears there are some very strong winds forecast coming in from the West. The conclusion being that tomorrow there is a window to get across to Corsica but the we need to be on the East side of Corsica to be sheltered from the Westerly gales. To Cross to the East of Corsica we need to be fairly well East along the coast so we decided to just cross over into Italy and target San Remo.

Having left St Tropez at 9.30am with little wind it soon filled in and we were off sailing with a nice following wind. We stated to get the cruising chute out for some extra speed but by the time we had got it all prepared to launch the wind had picked up to 18/20knots so we decided on prudence and continued under Genoa. Not being satisfied with the speed however we decided to gull wing using the Genoa and the new staysail – success.

We rapidly passed St Raphael, Cannes (with a large number of super yachts anchored off attending the film festival), Antibes, Nice, Monaco, Menton and then changing then across the border into Italy and finally arriving at San Remo just after 6.00pm
