This was our last stop before Sydney, a picture postcard harbour which all the guide books say is just perfect.
We arrived on Friday night and just managed to get our tent up before the thunder, lightening and rain started at about 5pm and when we left on Sunday morning, it hadn't stopped raining for more than 5 minutes in total! Added to the bad weather, we were on a pitch which had a definite slant downwards and a leaking zip on the 'upside' of the tent so all the water was coming in and running down through the living area!
On Sunday morning we decided enough was enough, we had a long drive to Sydney, about 6 or 7 hours on Monday and all of Sunday stuck in the tent, so we decided to leave early. We packed up in the pouring rain, took our tent to the nearest branch of BCF where we bought it, got a new one and went to Sydney a day early, thankfully our accommodation there was available. The good news is we have a new, dry tent, otherwise we would have been stuck here trying to dry the old one out before leaving it packed for 5 days - there is always a silver lining I suppose!
The weather was so bad, and the rain was so hard that kids on the site were racing their flip flops down the gutters!
The good news was that we met up with Ivan, our third crewman for part of the ARC rally and his sister in Coffs Harbour for lunch on Saturday as they were also having a holiday from Sydney.
