Ok, I know, it is not strictly a travel blog, in any way shape or form actually, but I thought it would be a good adventure/experience to include.
John and I were kindly invited to Buckingham Palace to attend a dinner in aid of the Central Caribbean Marine Institution, hosted by their patron, Prince Edward. The institute is based in the Cayman Islands and is undertaking a large programme of research into reef conservation and development.
The weekend started with a cocktail party at the Grosvenor Hotel in London which was a good opportunity to meet and get to know a bit about fellow guests before the main event, especially for us as we didn't know anyone else attending.
After a day of doing the tourist bit in London and watching the Changing of the Guard ceremony, it was time to get dressed up. The photos will no doubt come as a shock to any of you reading this who are far more used to seeing us scuffing around in our swimwear or sailing clothes.
The evening went off wonderfully well. There was a champagne reception at which we were greeted by Prince Edward, a charming man, followed by dinner. The food was as you might expect superb, with the main course being venison fresh from the Balmoral Estate in Scotland.
