This morning the first job was to get me up to the top of the mast to see what exactly had happened to our headsail. Once up there, it was obvious what had happened, the shackle holding the sail up had snapped in two. Now we knew what the problem was, all we had to do was fix it - did we have a spare, not likely, and neither did Brizo or Hebe, the other two Discovery 55s in the fleet. A couple of phone calls later and we now have a few on order, and spares will arrive before we leave for the Marquesas.
After lunch we went ashore and visited the interpretation centre, which explains the history of the islands and gives details of the wildlife both ashore and in the water. We followed the trail to the beach to see the very ugly marine iguanas, blue footed boobies, and yet more sea-lions!

The famous Galapagos blue footed boobies! I was really surprised by their feet. I didn't expect such a bright blue colour, it looks very odd. I thought they might have been a bit blue in a certain light, not like this.

Marine iguanas - a face only a mother could love!
