Tom and Debbie were one of the first couples we met in Nevis on our first visit here, in November 2011. Since then we have kept in touch and even managed to see them a couple of times in their home town in Maine over last summer. The rain had been fairly consistent the day before, so we had been hoping for better weather. When they arrived on the boat however, it was pouring! While we waited for a gap in the rain, we had coffee and homemade flapjack - a good start to the day! Once the rain cleared we headed out to St Kitts again - the weather was great for a sail, we had a reef in both the main and gib head sails, and flew across the Narrows.
On arrival, due to the 'stress' of sailing in perfect weather, we made a start on the flask of very spicy Bloody Mary's that Tom had mixed that morning - delicious! Lunch was the new 'house special' tuna salad. Nobody was particularly bothered for swimming so we spent the afternoon chillaxing on the boat. I had been in the water in the morning before we left, untangling the line from the mooring and it didn't feel all that warm. Sailing back was again in perfect weather. Once back on the mooring, we spent a couple of hours over cheese, red wine and fruit, served with the only fresh, crispy packet of crackers we have managed to get in months! One day John and I threw out 3 packets having tried them and found them all to be stale. We were told by Mark that stale crackers, biscuits and even breakfast cereals, can be revived with a short spell in a moderate oven, but we have yet to try this - this may be the way forward to avoid wasting so many things.
