This morning we decided to take a look at the town. We dinghied in and waited for the tourist train to take us to town, The train didn’t actually arrive so we set off to walk. Suzanne, due to damaging her feet on the first day, was reduced to a pair of John’s walking sandals as all her shoes hurt - they weren’t a particularly good look and she made us promise not to take photos which included her feet! We had tried everything to make some plasters stick yesterday, even duck tape but all hopeless!!
The walk to town turned out to be very interesting as we went past the salt pans where they ‘farm’ sea salt. As you walked further into the town the salt pans became drier to the extent that by the end they were just white with salt.

Also along the way we spotted, storks, flamingos & herons - see photo below, you can just make out the flamingos they were a little far away!

The town was really pretty and very Portuguese, similar to the old towns we have visited previously, and a total contrast to the man made aspect of Vilamoura. There was an old ruined castle, spread almost all over the town, and various churches. The streets were narrow and shady, and full of cafe bars and interesting nooks and crannies.
