Great sail from São Vicente to Santa Luzia, a deserted, if not desert, island. There is an abandoned village where occasional groups of fishermen camp and there are a few here now (about six boats, pulled up on the beach). Only one other yacht at anchor!!
Just as we were coming in to the anchorage, the fishing reel screeched and a genuine, very large, green Mahi Mahi had taken the bait. It was a bit of a struggle to get it alongside, I was in a bit of a rush, because we were closing in on the shore, and I made a beginners mistake and pulled it in too close and allowed it to thrash about on the surface. It broke free. Honest!! I was really annoyed with myself! I think I may have seriously undersized the fishing gear which we have on board. When I look at other boats they use much thicker lines and huge reels.
Hope to blow the dinghy up tomorrow and have a look ashore.
