| 41:25.6N 070:55.5W Cuttyhunk MA We did our mandatory 10000 steps yesterday and more, but sadly the 38? miles of trails were not really in evidence, so mostly done on rather busy roads. A good selection of shops and restaurants but all fighting for trade to make a decent living during the 3 months of the season.  We did manage to time the finish to coincide with Sushi Happy Hour at The Oar Bar before we indulged in a couple of starters at Dead Eye Dick’s which we discovered the day before. Met a couple of interesting people who were able to make recommendations for boatyards etc. Always useful to chat to people with local knowledge. Left Block Island at 6am, not a breath, not a ripple which somehow encouraged a lot of flies, all of the biting variety which seemed impervious to OFF our usual insect repellant. A rather tedious 7 hour passage....would have been faster had we had a clean bottom. F is convinced we have a shag pile Axminster attached to the undersides not to mention a ton of barnacles. Scrubbing is long overdue. Forever the hunter/gatherer, F attached the fishing reel and soon the whirring of the line was heard - only it was a small one and got away. However........  Sometime later, success! A blue fish, highly prized, great smoked or barbecued. Slight problem- don’t have smoker or bbq so will be pan fried. Had ceviche already for lunch. Delish. Now in Cuttyhunk Harbor MA- it must be the smallest inhabited island we have been to. 2 miles long and less than half a mile wide. I don’t think we’ll need Google Maps. From what we’ve seen, the complete antithesis to Block Island. A new state and another phone call to clear in. Very quick and efficient. We’re all ready to explore tomorrow and we’ve been invited to our neighbours for drinks! |
