Walked 8 miles along the Bayshore Trail from Atlantic Highlands to Highlands then up to the Twin Lights. Not very fit after 5 days of relative slothfulness. The trail was very reminiscent of the Exe Trail but the vegetation was very different. Here there was an abundance of bamboo and the dreaded Japanese knotweed was everywhere.  One of the Twin Lights- the first primary lighthouses to be powered by electricity in the US. Great views from the top. Marconi sent his first radio signal in the US from here.  Scot Free at anchor just off the trail, with the Manhattan skyline in the background. Awesome! (as they say here) |
