We had an uneventful 33 hour trip from Mag Bay to Cabo. We were all into the rhythm of the Figure 1 - The tip of the Baja PeninsulaIMG_4854boat and just settled in for the ride. We arrived in Cabo San Lucas at about 1PM Friday 11/13. We pulled in right as the fishing fleet and the tourist day trip boats were returning. After being alone in the ocean and maybe seeing 1 or 2 boats in a day to arrive in Cabo was a shock. IMG_4934There had to be at least 100 boats coming in and out of the small marina when we arrived. Almost all of them were going much faster than we were and were considerably smaller. With one exception. We were put right across from the biggest mega yacht we all have ever seen, Kismet. Kismet is owned by Shalid Kahn. He also owns the NFL team, Jacksonville Jaguars and Figure 3 - Mega yacht KismetIMG_4912the English Premier League soccer team Fulham FC. It is a 308 foot yacht that you can charter for a mere $1.2 million per week. We never saw anyone on the boat but the crew.

The entire marina is surrounded by a shopping mall and at least 30 different restaurants. All of them expensive. We were glad to be in a big city with good restaurants after a week of meals on the boat and not so great meals ashore in tiny fishing villages. Everyone took a much needed shower and got dressed and ready to go out for a nice meal. We walked around and looked for a restaurant. We saw a Ruth Chris Steakhouse and considered going there until we checked the prices. It was over $79 US for a rib eye steak! NOT….We found a restaurant we liked called, oddly, Common Table and had an excellent meal for $225. Everything in Cabo is grossly expensive. A cab to go to the movies 2 miles away was $12 bucks each way. We went and saw the new James Bond movie. We had not all been to a movie together in a very long time. It was nice. The movie theaters in Mexico are much nicer than in the US. They are also much cheaper. We paid $18 for the 4 of us.

Again we were on the dock with all the million dollar fishing boats. We were one of only a few sailboats in the entire marina. Every other boat was a fishing boat. Sport fishing rules all, in Cabo.

We booked the marina for 2 nights at $110 per night. It is the most money we have paid to stay in a marina, ever. The next night we went out for pizza and to watch the Rhonda Rousey fight. It was great pizza and a memorable night. After dinner we went out for a cruise in the dinghy to the iconic Cabo Arch and to lovers beach. IMG_4927

The next morning we went out for a snorkel just 1000 yards outside the marina near the arch. It was incredible! There is a submarine canyon just outside the entrance the marina and a nice reef that is full of fish. We really enjoyed ourselves.

Now it was time to get out of Cabo. We were headed 16 miles south to San Jose del Cabo.
