We are still in Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz.

Monday we went to the island Isla Isabela, left from here at 8am and back the day after at 5 pm. 28 hours but we managed to do a lot of exciting things, intensive 28 hours! And we where lucky to be able to enjoy some beatiful weather as well.

This is the largest Galapago island but there is only a couple of thousend inhabitants.

We found a cozy place to stay at, Hostal Insular, very friendly and helpful owners. Just 35 US for a double room and very good WiFi. Hostals is the only thing in Galapagos that is reasonable priced, everything else is very/too expensive.

Now we have finally managed to download Navionic charts covering Pitcairn and French Polynesia.

The first day we did some walks and ”treks” nearby to Villamil Town. There is only one town on the island. This island have long beautiful ”paradise beaches” which we enjoied very much. Lots of iguanas, in one place on the sandy beach there were plus 50! There was a also a nice board walk, about one km, to the Tortuga breeding centre. Plenty of amazing looking flamingos.

We managed to book a trek to the active volcano Sierra Negro, for the next day, this volcano had an eruption for 57 days and only stopped two weeks ago. Because of that the trek was reduced from five hours to three hours.

We had a spectacular ”snack stop” at the rim. This ”caldera” is the second biggest in the world (only Ngorongoro in Tanzania is bigger).

Back again in Villamil we rented mountain bikes and did the Camino de Tortugas along the coast, a cool ride and we saw five wild Tortugas! Some very nice sceneries.

Plenty of iguana crossings.

To travel between the islands you go with speed boats, 20-25 knots. It’s a very uncomfortable 2 hours long rough ride together with 20 - 25 other persons. Like us, they have to anchor in the bay, so you have to a take water taxi covering the shallow water to the jetty. Safety onboard ... HUM??

But still the visit to Isabela was absolutely worth it.
