The essentials of life onboard Sans Peur

Grete and Max went shopping yesterday. From the boat we had spotted a Tescos supermarket on the Hungarian side of the river. Hungary is part of the EU so we thought, no problem. They must use euros. Wrong! We were at the checkout when we realised this. We sorted it out though and left with a pocketful of Hungarian currency….approx 310 Hungarian thingamies to the euro (actually they’re called forints). We were happy with all their groceries but their gin was not to our liking, so we biked it back across the Danube to the Slovakian side where Grete had spotted a Lidl (i.e. same as our Aldi). Grete got some funny looks when she fronted at the checkout with just 4 bottles of gin….nothing else. Perhaps the locals thought we were going to drink them there on the footpath. But we do enjoy our daily ritual of a gin and tonic on the deck after a hard day’s cruising!
