We are now St Thomas, the eastern US Virgin island. We’ve been moored at Frenchtown for a couple of days, which is very pleasant with some local colour away from the cruise ships crowds.

The other interesting thing is the local boats. They have funny propellers that don’t seem to touch the water, seem much too tall to stand a serious seaway, but go like stink across the anchorage. Some people call them seaplanes, but I don’t think the idea will catch on – it’s far too dangerous, Health and Safety would never allow it at home. They are close enough to see the pilot wincing as he skims my mast. And yesterday the dinghy crossing the anchorage must have had an interesting trouser experience when one came straight at him in a cloud of spray on take off. They skim the water until they have to turn sharp right to avoid the cruise liners and hills beyond. What a great way to go to work.

Have now moved to Lindberg Bay ready for another international trip at the crack of noon tomorrow. Off to Puerto Rico, first stop Culebra then Vieques and hopefully the Biobay experience.
