We weren't able to resolve the problems with Monica on board so we set of in search of a shore based mechanic. After a short taxi ride we found just the fella. He has a big vice, a bigger hammer and an acetylene torch and welding gear. We needed it all and after a couple of hours we had a working mechanism. This was fitted aboard and we were off at 15 00GMT that is on the 13 Feb. We are counting that as the official start time ignoring the messing about we did yesterday. We are now making reasonable progress south west of Santo Antao on a course for Grenada.

It goes without saying that the last 24 hours have been stressful, without Monica a crossing would have been problematic. We have an electrical auto pilot as well but with out continually running the engine it use would be impossible.
