We have made it to Santo Porto exactly four days after setting off from Cascais, a distance of about 480 nm. We are anchored in the bay deciding whether to go into the local marina (the place looks pretty barren) or carry on today to the main island of the Madeira or just stay anchored and row ashore in our rubber dinghy. Just checking the weather. The place is pretty dead the only restaurant at the marina has just closed according to a Brit tourist. Lots of unemployment, something we have seen all the way down the Spanish and Portugese Atlantic coast.

Seems we are having problems with the sat phone making a connection so decided to have tea and cake, what cake Madeira of course bought all the way from Tesco in Falmouth. We'll try the phone again later. Didn't work so sent from Madeira
