Back in the Water

Hello from Jolly Harbour Antigua.  Yesterday the boat went back in the water and all appeared to go smoothly until I checked the engine after we were securely docked in our slip. Somehow a vent conduit had dropped onto the propellor shaft and contrived to wind around the gearbox outlet.  The conduit was stiffened by wire and this wire is tightly wound around the shaft and destroyed the rear gearbox seal.  We managed to get a mechanic from the boatyard and the gearbox has been removed for the wire to be removed and for a new seal to be fitted, hopefully they will have the right spares, otherwise we will have to wait for a replacement seal.

Winding back, pun intended, Penny and I have had a pleasant period walking between Tranquility Bay (where we are staying until we can go back on the boat), the boatyard, the Crows Nest pub, the Epicurean supermarket, and Jolly beach.  The antifouling went well apart from the phenomenal cost of the anti-foul paint; £280/US gallon of Micron 66 of which we needed 4 gallons to cover the bottom of Roysterer.  All in - Antifouling cost us £1700, lucky we only have to do it every 2 years.

I have added pictures of the boat prior to antifouling (spot the essential missing part, answer in the next blog), Roysterer after antifouling,  in the cradle on the way to going back into the water, and just splashing down. I have also added a picture of Penny enjoying Jolly Beach, a sunset with the sun positioned right next to the Kingdom of Redonda, and our garden view from the balcony of our self catering apartment at Tranquility Bay.
