We left Ulsteinvik in the evening yesterday having first joined the locals
at their midsummer bonfire. By the time it had died down there was no real
sign of any partying in the large marquee in the village so we decided we’d set
sail. As we motored along the coast we did see many other fires en
route. Our passage to Kristiansund, where we arrived early this afternoon
was uneventful with a mix of motoring and some good sailing with following
winds, plus a brief encounter with dolphins. However, the whole day has
again been marked by rain, drizzle and low cloud, so any prospect of seeing the
spectacular scenery we’ve passed in its best light has not materialised.
Knowing there’s a heat wave at home has not made this easy to live with and
we’re really looking forward to some clear skies and sun. However, the
forecast suggests we may have to wait a little longer. To add to our
disappointment, it’s Sunday and Kristiansund is closed, so we’ll do some
exploring in the morning before we depart for Rorvik, another 150nm to our
north.
The photos show the midsummer bonfire in Ulsteinvik and a damp crew
arriving in Kristiansund.
PS: just been to an amazing working museum boatyard. Photos to follow
with next blog. |
