We are now (1000hrs Tuesday) 160 miles off North Cape and 310 away from Auckland, so progress continues to be good. However the low in the Tasman is intensifying and we really need to be out of harms way by Friday, when winds will reach 35kts and the seas will become large and confused with competing north east and south east swells. Right now we have a 20kt easterly that is supposed to become northeasterly soon and thus speed progress towards Akd. If we can keep up our current speed of over 7 kts we will get to Auckland early Thursday and if we are slowed to a 6 kt average we will arrive Akd late Thursday morning. So with all things being equal we should outrun the storm.
With only 2 more nights on the boat, interest in cooking has waned somewhat. We have a good supply of eggs on board that will be taken away by the quarantine people in Auckland. Chris was promising to make all sorts of omelets to use them up, but all we could manage yesterday was a hard boiled egg for lunch!
It hasn't got as cold as it could have, courtesy of the north easterly that is following us in, but the sky is very grey and heavily overcast.
