We arrived at the Blue Lagoon anchorage yesterday. It ended up with this name as the movie "Blue Lagoon" was shot here many years ago. Its a very nice beach but part of it is restricted to tourists from cruise boats that back up to the beach and disgorge their customers for a fun day on a Pacific island. Its also a good sheltered anchorage - which is appreciated because it looks as if we are going to get some rain and possibly wind soon - first real rain in a month!
Getting into the anchorage was a mission, with a complex maze of reefs protecting the entrance, especially when the charts are sparse on detail and often just plain wrong. The bay is popular with yachties and we have 10 around us, of which 2 others are Auckland boats - Laissez Faire and White Gold. One of the 10 is the 138ft long superyacht 'Imagine" She is lit up like a Christmas tree at night - it makes for quite a light show. Goodness knows what the locals think!
We found the fabled Yasawa market garden up a backwater on Matacawa Levu island - and came away with eggplant, tomatoes, spring onions and bok choy. They also had fresh coriander and basil! Apparently they sell a lot of their stuff to the local resorts. It was run by a lovely Fijian couple with 2 young kids and a granny in tow.
