Rhapsode

Our friendly seabird came to keep watch with us again last night. He was less communicative though and simply sat on his perch and stared out to sea. I tried him on the state of the world economy, Buddhism and sought his opinion on declining world fish stocks (I thought that would surely work) but all  to no avail. He just wasn’t in the mood and left us without saying a word just before dawn.

A ship had to alter course for us this morning. I came into the cockpit after it had passed and Michaela told me that she had given it a friendly wave and gestured asking it to toot its whistle. I don’t know about you but the pumping of the arm up and down in that fashion seems to me to more of an obscene gesture than a whistle blowing request! I hate to think what the officer of the watch on the ship thought about it. I hope we haven’t been reported to the sea police.
