Slow progress today – the wind has died and the sails are flogging. We’ve had the engine on since six o’clock this morning and it looks as tho’ it will stay on for a while.

 

Last night Liz and I sat on the gas bottle boxes on the aft deck in the moon light watching great ‘blobs’ of bioluminescence explode from under the stern of the boat. Many were the size of football balls or bigger.

 

Michael and Michaela had a visitor on their night watch – a small (and as yet unidentified) sea bird came to sit on one of the starboard lifebuoy for a rest. Fortunately it didn’t leave a calling card!

 

Michaela did her first full night watch all alone – and on Halloween night (with an almost full moon!) as well. I’m not sure of the connection but I have been told by her to say that we had mushy peas as part of our Halloween dinner. Could mean anything I suppose. Might even be code for ‘ Help, get me out of here!’.  Still, with no wind, being on water rations and with the temperature hotting up who could blame her.
