Wednesday 27th August pm.  We have returned to Alghero to fuel up and provision before setting off early tomorrow for the trip back to Menorca. We have brought this forward by several days from our initial intentions as strong winds from the Gulf of Lyon are forecast from early next week. If possible, we want to call in at Mahon and purchase a Spanish SIM card and then move on to Mallorca before the winds hit and the sea heaps up.
Immediately on coming back here we have noticed the difference in temperatures. Whilst we had pleasant cooling breeze in the anchorage, our berth on the Alghero town quay is very sheltered and we have the added ‘benefit’ of the ‘storage heaters’, being the large stone walls right behind us.

One chastening event happened just as we were settling into our berth with another Brit arriving in a Princess 42 motorboat, using just one engine. The boat came from Hythe and is called ’Three Wishes of Hythe’.  Apparently, he had left an hour beforehand and just accelerated on to the plane when one of his propellers fell off, although he didn’t know that at the time, he just knew that he had a problem, shut down his engines and then couldn’t start the affected one. Volvo mechanics were called for and, amazingly, arrived 10 minutes before the time they said they would. Currently their boat has gone to be lifted out to discover the full extent of the problem.
