Saturday 22nd – Ermioni (Hermioni)

Today we explored this small town of Ermioni.  The pilot book describes it as small and non-touristy however the information is a little out of date.  Possibly due to the hydrofoil terminal here, it has developed into a place with fairly large tavernas (with menus in English as well as Greek) and a number of supermarkets catering for us masses.

This afternoon we went over the hill to the other side of the town (about 5 minutes walk) and onto the other coast; we then walked back around the headland.  The weather has remained overcast and so walking was pleasant.  On the way back we went through an area signposted as an archaeological site but we weren’t able to see or find out much about it on our way round.

Richard spent the rest of the afternoon trying to mend the generator but it still doesn’t want to start.  He tried a new spark plug but now thinks that fuel isn’t getting through so more major surgery is required when he feels like a bit more engineering.  Thankfully he was distracted by Andy calling him onto another boat, Castaway, to help sort out their spinnaker.

This evening Ermioni has become very popular and the quay has filled up on both sides.  We went for drinks with Steve and Jane on Castaway before dinner – they too had not enjoyed their visit to Hydra by boat.
