Friday 31st July – Póros, Kefalonia – Port Vathi, Ithaca

This morning we went for a walk into Póros village before the sun got too hot.  It is a small place, made up of a few houses and a few small hotels – there seemed to be more places to eat than people; we had a pleasant walk along the beach front and found a small supermarket where we bought a couple of things before walking back.  We really liked it as, despite the many bars, it was not too touristy.

We set sail, or rather, motor, late morning into a flat and hazy sea scape, almost spooky.  There was no wind at all and so we motored across to Ithaca and came into the bay of Port Vathi; we anchored mid afternoon and I was finally able to go for a swim – the town quays have not been tempting.  Here I was able to step down the swim ladder on the stern of Pyxis and into water of 26 degrees to cool off – this is what I have been looking forward to.  However, unfortunately I wasn’t leaping into crystal clear waters as there is weed in the bay so it is a bit green.  Never mind, maybe another day, another anchorage…

Late afternoon, the wind blew up to around 20+ knots from W/SW (not the expected N/NW4) and so now we are sitting out a strong wind on a lee shore.  Paradise? I think not!  Hopefully it will ease after dusk and go NW as forecast.
