Sunday 26th July – Argostoli, Kefalonia

The wind blew up quite strongly during the night and has continued all day.  We are all rocking and rolling around on our berths – it has felt like a day at sea and it continues tonight too.  The swell has made it difficult to get ashore and so I haven’t managed to get off the boat today – it has provided a reason to sit in the cockpit and read a book.

This morning Richard managed to get ashore during a lull and return with bread for lunch and large chocolate croissants as a Sunday breakfast treat J

He has managed to catch up on various admin and boat maintenance jobs on board during the day.  The good news is that both bikes are now working again as he has managed to replace the inner tube on the remaining flat tyre.

Despite the weather a few boats have arrived today; the later arrivals needing more and more help to berth given the strengthening wind.  Those moored alongside the wall further down the town quay were bucking and rolling quite a lot in the fetch running down into the bay – they were going to have a very uncomfortable night.

Around 8pm, the last yacht arrived – it was quite big at 54ft.  Unfortunately, first time in, it caught itself on the anchor chain of the previous boat to arrive and then, once free, struggled several times to get stern to the quay.  Richard went up to help with some of the others.  In the end it took the yacht a further 3 attempts to get in and securely tied off – it wasn’t until 11.15pm that Richard managed to get back to Pyxis.
